Assemblage ► Pinball console ► Hybrid Art

Chance and control — united in found objects that, through re-evaluation, become artistic models of TRUE personal computers. Mostly created through upcycling and what might be called minor craftsmanship, old flaws are preserved to allow individuality to unfold. These one-of-a-kind pieces offer emotionally resonant alternatives to fading mass design. Inspiration stems from a person's personal passions, spaces, events — or even from a company's premium products and material palette.

The assemblages can be brought to life as interactive exhibits, transforming them into contemporary HYBRID ART. Through creative applications or emulations of pinball machines, they reintroduce a sense of nostalgic tangibility to an increasingly virtualized world. A custom exhibition- and media-license for PINBALL FX by ZEN STUDIOS, the market leader in pinball software, brings my CABINET ART to life at exhibitions, fairs and events. The inspiration for my objects arises from subtle, easily overlooked connections between things and events – in the act of making, my passions merge synergistically. As a minimalist, I was drawn early on to limiting conditions, which led me into the arms of perfectionism – a trait that often made my intellectual and digital work strenuous. Only after another ten years as hardware supporter at the art book publisher TASCHEN did I, through tangible creation, finally discover the effortless state of FLOW.

It is not the object that brings me joy – despite those Eureka moments when beauty and aesthetics fall perfectly into place – but the FOCUS that gathers my perceptions and disciplines into a single stream. Within the process, an essence reveals itself to me – one that holds everything within it, yet bears no weight that needs to be balanced. Instead, everything finds its own place… within the constructional space I have chosen. Thus I drift into an idea, and in doing so, recall the source of ALL ideas.
